China, Canada Hold Strategic Working Group's Meeting in Beijing

On February 25, 2010, China and Canada held a ministerial-level strategic working group's meeting at the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse in Beijing.

The two sides exchanged in-depth views on bilateral ties as well as cooperation in trade, investment, natural resources, environment, and multilateral affairs and achieved positive results.

Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Cui Tiankai, Vice Minister of Commerce Yi Xiaozhun, as well as Canadian Deputy Foreign Minister Leonard Edwards and Deputy Minister of International Trade Louis Levesque co-chaired the meeting. Representatives from China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Environmental Protection, People's Bank of China and National Energy Administration, as well as Cassie Doyle, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources of Canada, and officials from Canada's Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ministry of Natural Resources and the Canadian embassy in China participated in the meeting.

The strategic working group between China and Canada, established in January 2005, was a ministerial-level consultation mechanism. The current meeting was a consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries during Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper's visit to China last December.
