Yang Jiechi Meets with Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Platonovich Patrushev

On December 6, 2013, State Councilor Yang Jiechi met with the Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Platonovich Patrushev in Cape Town, South Africa.

Yang Jiechi said that 2013 marks a year of harvest for the China-Russia relations due to the great efforts made by the leaders of the two countries. In 2014, the two sides should maintain the momentum of the high-level exchanges, vigorously implement the cooperation consensuses reached by both leaders. Both sides should continue to support each other politically, firmly push forward pragmatic cooperation, and promote the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership to move forward deeply. The two sides should well foster China-Russia Strategic Security Consultation, keep close communications and coordination on major international and regional issues within the framework such as Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS countries, and work together to maintain peace, security and stability of the region and the world.

Yang Jiechi said that China supports Russia to host the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. The two sides should enhance coordination and cooperation to ensure the success of the CICA Summit, the Leaders' Informal Meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), the BRICS Summit and other events in 2014.

Nikolai Patrushev said that Russia is willing to maintain close exchanges and consultations with China, strengthen cooperation in the law enforcement of security, jointly fight against cross-border crimes such as the "Three Forces" and drug smuggling, and safeguard the common security of both countries and regional peace and stability.
