Xi Jinping Meets with Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea (ROK) Kang Chang-hee

On 6 December 2013, Chinese President Xi Jinping met at the Great Hall of the People with Kang Chang-hee, Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea (ROK).

Xi Jinping said that China-ROK relations now enjoy sound development. Since the beginning of this year, I have met quite a number of times with ROK President Park Geun-hye and both sides have jointly set the overall direction for the development of bilateral relations under the new situation. China-ROK strategic cooperative partnership has been unceasingly enriched and developed and the Chinese side is satisfied with this. The Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee held not long ago made overall deployment for China fully deepening reform. China furthering reform and opening up will provide broader prospects for China-ROK cooperation. Hope both sides will continue to maintain high-level exchanges, strengthen strategic communication and mutual trust and link bilateral relations with their respective development strategies so as to unceasingly create more meeting points of cooperation and growth points of cooperation and to better benefit the two countries and the two peoples.

Xi Jinping said that the exchanges between the legislative bodies are important part of China-ROK relations and are of great significance to enhancing mutual understanding between the statesmen and people of the two countries and to boosting political communication. China is ready to work with the ROK to leverage the unique advantages of the exchanges between the legislative bodies of the two countries so as to make due contributions to the development of China-ROK relations.

Kang Chang-hee expressed congratulations on the successful convening of the Third Plenary Session of the 18th CPC Central Committee. It is believed that by fully deepening reform, the great Chinese Dream can undoubtedly be realized. He expressed that ROK-China relations are in the best period in history. The ROK National Assembly is ready to further contribute to promoting friendly exchanges and practical cooperation between the two countries in all fields.

Wang Chen, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee, was present at the meeting.
