Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Liu Weimin's Remarks on the Current Situation over the Huangyan Island
2012/06/06

Q: The Philippine Department of Foreign Affairs issued a statement recently that both the Chinese and Philippine government vessels have withdrawn from the lagoon of the Huangyan Island. What is China's comment? Does China consider keeping its government vessels stationed on alert around the Huangyan Island following the easing of tensions in the area?

A: The Chinese government vessels have been deployed on guard in waters off the Huangyan Island based on the needs of on-site law-enforcement, management and service. China is staying in direct communication with the Philippine side on the proper resolution of the situation. As far as I know, there is no Philippine government vessel in the lagoon. Chinese fishing boats are operating normally in the lagoon without free of disturbance.
