KATHMANDU, Dec. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National
Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, arrived
here Tuesday for an official goodwill visit to Nepal at the invitation
of Parasu Narayan Chaudhary, chairman of the Raj Parishad of Nepal.
In his written statement delivered upon arrival at the airport,Jia said
China and Nepal are close and friendly neighbors, and that the two countries
have forged a relationship of mutual respect and trust, equality and cooperation
on the basis of the Five Principles of Peaceful Co-existence over the
past years.
He said he will have discussions with Nepalese leaders on consolidating
the friendship and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation between the
two countries, and that he hopes this visit will further promote bilateral
friendly and good-neighborly partnership, which has been carried on for
generations.
Nepal is the fourth leg of Jia's visit to five south Asian nations.
Jia has visited India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh before arriving here
and is also scheduled to visit Pakistan.

importance to the development of friendly and cooperative relations with
Nepal, Jia Qinglin, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese
People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said here on Tuesday.
Jia, who arrived here Tuesday morning for an official goodwill visit
to Nepal at the invitation of Parasu Narayan Chaudhary, chairman of the
Raj Parishad of Nepal, made the remarks here Tuesday afternoon at separate
meetings with Chaudhary and Speaker of the House of Representatives of
Nepal Taranath Ranabhat.
Talking about the profound friendship between the two peoples, Jia said
China and Nepal, with different conditions, social systems and historical
and cultural backgrounds, have witnessed sound and smooth progress of
their bilateral relations since they forged diplomatic ties in 1950.
Sino-Nepalese bilateral relations, featuring equal and sincere treatment,
mutual support and friendship for generations, can be an example for relations
between big and small countries, noted Jia.
He said China will be Nepal's reliable friend, neighbor and partner
despite changes in international and regional situations.
Jia appreciated Nepal's support for China on issues concerning China's
sovereignty such as Tibet, Taiwan and human rights.
He went on to say that Nepal is the first tourist destination in south
Asia opened to Chinese tourists, and both sides can make use of tourism
cooperation to strengthen bilateral non-governmental exchanges.
Chaudhary pointed to the long history of bilateral contacts and the
sincere friendship between Nepal and China.
He said leaders of the two countries attach great importance to bilateral
relations and the frequent exchange of high-level visits has enhanced
mutual trust and promoted cooperation.
Ranabhat said Nepal hopes to continuously enhance people-to-people contacts
and expand cooperative spheres with China.
He said Nepal will abide by the one-China policy unswervingly and support
China on such issues as Taiwan, Tibet and human rights.
Nepal will not allow any anti-China activity on its territory, Ranabhat
stressed.

Jia said that since the two countries forged diplomatic ties, the two
sides have had frequent high-level contacts and conducted smooth cooperation
in various fields, adding the two countries have no problems to be resolved.
Jia expressed his appreciation for Nepal's support for China on such
issues as Taiwan, Tibet and human rights.
Jia said the new Chinese leadership attaches importance to its good
neighborly partnership for generations with Nepal, taking it as an important
component of China's foreign policy concerning neighboring countries.
China fully understands and supports the Nepalese government's efforts
for safeguarding national unity and maintaining social stability, noted
Jia, adding he believes that the Nepalese people can better deal with
Nepal's domestic affairs under the leadership of the Nepalese king and
government.
Thapa said bilateral friendship has a long history and there are no
problems existing between the two countries, pointing to the frequent
exchange of visits between leaders of the two sides, which serves the
improvement of bilateral relations and people-to-people friendship.
He voiced his appreciation for China's assistance for Nepal's economic
development in the past years.
He reiterated that the Nepalese government abides by a one-China policy
unswervingly and will never allow any anti-China activity within its territory.
After the meeting, Jia and Thapa attended a signing ceremony for bilateral
economic and technical cooperation agreement and an exchange of notes
on border trade between the two sides.
Jia also had a separate meeting with Nepalese acting Foreign Minister
B.B. Thapa.

He mentioned the smooth growth of bilateral relations in the past 48
years in bilateral diplomatic ties and the bilateral friendship cultivated
by leaders of the two countries.
He pointed to the consistent efforts made by the Nepalese king in different
periods of time and the royal family for bilateral friendship in the past
years, and their indispensable role in this process.
Jia said the new Chinese leadership will, in the spirit of treating
neighbors in a friendly way and as partners, further bilateral cooperation
in various fields and enhance the friendship between the two peoples on
the basis of mutual respect, trust and reciprocity.
Describing China as a reliable friend of Nepal, Jia said China supports
the efforts of the Nepalese king and government for safeguarding national
unity, maintaining social stability, speeding up economic development
and improving Nepalese people's living standards.
Gyanendra recalled his visit to China last year, saying that he was
deeply impressed by the friendly sentiments of the Chinese leaders and
people for Nepal during the visit.
He said he supports the exchanges and cooperation between the Nepalese
Raj Parishad so as to make contributions to the overall development of
bilateral relations.
