CRI awards prize to Nepal ese contest winners

KATHMANDU , Sept. 19 : A delegation of China Radio International (CRI) distributed prize here on Saturday to the Nepalese winners of "the Western China Culture Knowledge Contest" organized by the China state-run radio station. Addressing the prize distribution ceremony, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Sun Heping said, "Since the CRI began its Nepalese language broadcasting in 1975, the program has won more and more Nepalese friends' favorites, made great contributions for enhancing the understanding and friendship between the two peoples, and constructed a broad and friendly bridge across the two countries." After the first CRI Listener's Club was set up by Prakash Babu Paudel, president of the Nepali National Council of CRI Listener's Clubs, in 1985, there have been more than 500 clubs with millions of audience throughout Nepal , Sun noted. The CRI, the second biggest radio station in the world, broadcasts programs in 43 languages, including Nepalese programs for three hours every day. The Nepalese language broadcasting has become a very popular program among Nepalese listeners. A two-member delegation of the CRI, led by Zou Zhaojun, chief of the Nepali Department of the Chinese radio station, participated in the 3rd National Convention of National Council of CRI Listeners Clubs of Nepal held in Kathmandu . Hundreds of representatives of Nepalese listeners from various parts of the Himalayan kingdom attended the ceremony.
