H.E. Mr. Zheng Xianglin attends the delivery and receipt ceremony of election materials donated to Nepal by Chinese Government

The Election Commission of Nepal holds the Handover Ceremony of election materials donated by Chinese Government in the Conference Hall of EC building on November 12, 2007. Chinese Ambassador H.E. Mr. Zheng Xianglin, the chief Election Commissioner of Nepal H.E. Mr. Bhoj Raj Pokharel, the Secretary of Election Commission Mr. Sushili Rana, the Economic and Commercial Councilor of Chinese Embassy Mr. Bai Dongmin, journalists from TV and newspapers in Nepal attend the ceremony.

Zheng says that, as Nepal's close and friendly neighbor, China has been keeping close watch on the Peace Process in Nepal. To extend our support to the election, the Chinese Government signed the Letters of Exchange with the Nepalese Government on July 24, 2007 concerning provide the materials for the Constitutional Assembly Election. The materials have been consigned to Kathmandu in three batches by chartered aircraft recently. In this Handover Ceremony, we would like to formally hand over the election materials which is equivalent to approximately 90 million Rupees to the Nepalese side, hence to complete all the obligations stipulated. And we hope that, this batch of materials could be utilized at the earliest and exert positive function in the coming CA election.

Zheng emphasizes that, the Peace Process of Nepal has encountered difficulties in the process of heading forward. The Election formerly stipulated on November 22nd has been delayed. The Chinese government regards the CA Election to be an important chain in the whole Peace Process, and the successful completion of the Election will contribute a lot to the future political stability, economic development and people's welfare. We are convinced that, Nepalese people will make full use of their capacity and wisdom to conquer all kinds of challenges. We sincerely hope that, the leaders of Nepalese government and political parties, proceeding form the interests of the whole nation and people, find a solution to break the present political deadlock in peaceful manner, so as to promote the Peace Process for further development.

Zheng reiterates that, China and Nepal enjoy a long-standing friendship. The bilateral relationship has stood the test of time and international changes and is heading forward healthily and smoothly, which has been testified by expanding cooperation in all areas and deepening friendship between the two peoples. As a neighboring country, China will, as always, to extend our unselfish support and assistant to the best of our capacity. The material assistant handed over today embodied the firm support of Chinese government to the Peace Process of Nepal, as well as the good and deep sentiment of Chinese people towards Nepalese people.

Mr. Rana highly appraises the close cooperation of Chinese Embassy and the Election Commission in implementing the Letters of Exchange sighed by the two governments and greatly appreciates the valuable assistant and support from the Chinese side. Mr. Pokharel expresses his gratitude to the concerned authorities from China for their understanding and coordination. He says that the CA Election was formerly stipulated to be held at the end of this month. Thus, the EC rendered the in-time and safe distribution and delivery of the election materials to the local polling stations in the 75 districts of whole Nepal to be one of the priorities in the preparation agenda. Due to the specific geographical features and the backward transportation situation in Nepal, the Chinese side has given positive consideration of EC's request of fast delivery, worked 24 hours to prepare the materials, which ensured the fast and sound delivery of the materials in Kathmandu. However, the Peace Process has met with deadlock and the election was postponed. But EC is still continuing its work. EC will attach great importance to the storage, sorting and delivery of the materials, and send them to the polling stations at the earliest. This batch of materials is in high quality and great value, it will definitely play a positive role in the coming election.
